Know all Men by these present that I John Fleming of North Stoneham in the County of Southampton Esquire Lord of the several Manors of North Stoneham, Romsey Infra and Romsey Extra in the County of Southampton. And also Lord of the several Manors or reputed Manors of Haseley, Combley, Quarr, Newnham, Binstead, Duxmore and Racklands in the Isle of Wight and County of Southampton aforesaid have made constituted, deputed and appointed and by these present, do make constitute depute and appoint Charles Le Gay of the town and County of Southampton, gentleman, to be chief Steward of all and singular the said Manors or Lordships with the Lands, Tenements and hereditaments thereunto, belonging, and to hold and keep all and all manner of Courts, Court Leet, Court Baron, Views of Frankpledge and all other Courts of what kind soever of or for the several Manors or Lordships. And do hereby give and grant to him the said Charles Le Gay and his sufficient Deputy and Deputies in that behalf, full power and authority to hold and keep all and every the said Court, Leet of Courts Baron and Views of Frankpledge within the limits of the said several Manors or Lordships or any of them and to do and execute all things belonging to the said office of Steward. To have, hold, execute and enjoy the aforesaid of Steward of all and singular the said Manors or Lordships of North Stoneham, Romsey Infra and Romsey Extra and all Lands and Heredits thereto belonging and also the said several Manors or reputed Manors of Haseley, Combley, Quarr, Newnham, Binstead, Duxmore and Rachlands and all Lands and hereditaments thereto belonging and the holding and keeping the Courts thereof or therein together with all manner of Fees, Perquisites, Profits, Advantages, Enrolments and Appurtenances whatsoever to the said office of Steward of the Manor, Lands and Heredits belonging or in anywise appertaining unto the said Charles Le Gay for and during my will and pleasures only. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty fourth day of October in the tenth year of the Reign of King George the third and in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and seventy.
